All over the world, people have been gathering, praying.
Our smart TV is purposely not hooked up to cable. So I don’t play the game of hanging onto the “latest development” spin of the news outlets.
Nevertheless, before heading to bed Wednesday night, I found the impact of the headlines upsetting. I arose after a short nap and went to my prayer-chair. Isaiah 37:33 succinctly provided me the context for what is now playing out: “He will not enter this city or shoot an arrow here. He will not come before it with shield or build a siege ramp against it. By the way he came, by the same he shall return.”
I know, from those with whom I’ve been in touch from Vietnam to Israel to Afrika to India to the Caribbean, that the Body is mobilized across the globe …. seeing the impact and reverberations of what is happening in our backyard …. knowing its impact on the rest of the world.
Join me in praying:
Lord, how my adversaries have increased! Many are they who rise up against me. Many are they who say of me, “There is no help for him in God.” But You, O Lord, are a shield for us, our glory and the One who lifts up our heads. I cried out to the Lord and He heard me from His holy hill. I lay down and slept; and then I awoke, for the Lord sustained me. I will not be afraid of ten thousands of people, who have set themselves against me. Arise, O Lord; save me, O my God! For You have smitten all my enemies. Salvation belongs to the Lord. Your blessing is upon Your people.
Lord, do not remain silent and do not be still. For behold, Your enemies make an uproar, and those who hate You have exalted themselves. They make shrewd plans against Your people. They conspire together against Your treasured ones. They have said, “Come and let us wipe them out that the name of Israel be remembered no more.” For they have conspired together with one mind; against You they make a covenant. O my God, make them like the whirling sands. Like fire that burns the forest, so pursue them with Your tempest and terrify them with Your storm. Fill their faces with dishonor, that they may know that You alone, whose name is the LORD, are the Most High over all the earth.
O God, You thunder with Your majestic voice, doing great things which we cannot comprehend.
When You utter Your voice, there is a tulmult of waters in the heavens; You cause the mist to arise from the ends of the earth. You make lightning for the rain, You bring wind out of Your treasuries. For You are the Maker of all things. For the nations are like a drop from a bucket and are accounted as the dust on the scales; You take up the islands like fine dust. All the nations are nothing before You. Every valley shall be lifted up, and every mountain and hill be made low; the uneven ground shall become level, and the rough places a plain. So the glory of the LORD shall be revealed, and all peoples shall see it together, for the mouth of the LORD has spoken.”
O Lord, my heart overflows with a good theme; with verses addressed to the King. Gird up your sword, O Mighty One. In Your splendor and majesty! In Your majesty ride on victoriously, for the cause of truth and meekness and righteousness. Your arrows are sharp; Your enemies fall under You. Your arrows have penetrated the heart of Your enemies.
Lord, You are the maker of all things, stretching out the heavens by Yourself and spreading out the earth all alone, Who foils the signs of false prophets, and makes fools of diviners, causing wise men to draw back and turning their knowledge into foolishness, Who confirms the word of Your servants and performs the counsel of Your messengers. Who says to Jerusalem, ‘Be inhabited,’ to the cities of Judah, ‘Be built up,’ and I will raise up her waste places; Who says to the deep, ‘Be dried up! and I will dry up your rivers’; Who says of Cyrus, ‘He is My shepherd, and he shall perform all My pleasure.’
